Mounting Instructions for your Fold Away Camping Antenna to your Caravan/Pop Top Caravan

Follow these simple Caravan Camping Antennae Mounting Instructions and before you know it your foldaway camping antenna will be installed on your caravan. Please note a Standard Fold Away Antenna is required.

Contents include
Antenna with 1 pole attached
1 x extension pole
1 x lock off pole
Top Clip
Bottom mount and 6 x S.S screws
You will also need Turps and a rag
3 to 3.5mm drill and a Phillips head screw driver or screw gun.

Before You Begin the Installation of your Camping Antennae

When you receive your Fold Away Antenna open the top by pulling the lid up with a pair of pliers or similar grips. Remove the staples then take the antenna out of its tube. Feed the Coaxial cable through the extension poles first. Then the lock off pole last-bringing the cable out of the slot just above the clamp. Now that the Antenna has been erected it is time to mount it onto your Caravan.

Caravan Camping Antennae Mounting Instructions

If you have a Caravan/pop top caravan you will require a Standard Antenna. Start by finding the best location on your caravan for it to be mounted…..I like to mount it close to where the T.V is located.  I also recommend a Direct Connecter for the cable to pass through the wall off the van directly to the T.V.

Now using a 3 to 3.5mm drill bit mark the holes for the top clip as high as you can on the side of the caravan or on the Pop Top. Depending on your van, drill the 2 holes for the screws so that the top clip is horizontal to the van. Apply a good quality silicone adhesive sealant. I like to use a white silicone or Sika Flex adhesive. Fix off with 2 of the 6 Stainless steel screws provided, wipe of and clean up the excess glue with turps and a rag.

Mounting Your Caravan Camping Antennae

To work out were to mount the bottom bracket first clip the antenna onto the top clip. There should be one section still above the caravan then locate the bottom mount lifting the Antenna up about 50mm or 2 inches. Now the top pole will be just above the van, the antenna will be about 60 cm or 2 feet above the roof line.

Place the bottom mount into the clamp and lock it off. When you are satisfied that the mast is vertical to the caravan mark, drill the 4 holes for the bottom bracket. Next fix the bottom bracket again-using the silicone sealant/adhesive and fixing off with the 4 remaining stainless steel screws. Wipe off and clean up the excess glue with turps and a rag.

Now that you have successfully mounted your Fold Away Antenna you may find that the arms/elements may need to be tightened. Ensure they stay in the 10 and 2 o’clock tuning position. Just tighten the arms so that they are firm enough to stay up but still move up and down freely.

Packing up Tip

Remove the Antenna from the Caravan, fold the arms down and loosen the joints completely. The antenna will then concertina down. Hold the antenna with one hand while wrapping the coaxial cable length ways with the other hand. Finally place it back into the tube and secure the lid.

2 x extension poles
1 x lock off pole
Top Clip
Bottom mount and 6x S.S screws
You will also need Turps and a rag
A 3 to 3.5mm drill and a Phillips head screw driver or screw gun.

Before you Start Mounting Your Wind Up Camper Trailer

When you receive your Tall Boy Fold Away Antenna open the lid on the top by pulling the lid up with a pair of pliers or similar grips. Remove the staples then take the antenna, mounts and screws out of its tube.

Feed the Coaxial cable through the extension poles first then the lock off pole last-bringing the cable out of the slot just above the clamp. Now that the Antenna has been erected it is time to mount it onto your Camper Van/Trailer.

Step By Step Instructions to Mount your Wind Up Camper Trailer

Start by finding the best location on your camper van for it to be mounted. I like to mount it close to where the T.V is located. Wind up the top by about 10cm-now using a 3 to 3.5mm drill bit. Mark the holes for the top clip on the Pop Top.  Drill the 2 holes for the screws so that the top clip is horizontal.

Importantly apply a good quality silicone adhesive sealant. I like to use a white silicone or Sika Flex adhesive. Fix off with 2 of the 6 Stainless steel screws provided. Wipe off and clean up the excess glue with turps. Wind the top of the van all of the way up ready for the next step.

Mounting your Camper Trailer Antennae

To work out were to mount the bottom bracket. First clip the antenna onto the top clip. There is one section still above the van. Locate the bottom mount lifting the Antenna up about 50mm or 2 inches. Now the top pole will be slightly above the camper van. The antenna will be about 60 cm or 2 feet above the roof line.

Place the bottom mount into the clamp and lock it off. When you are satisfied that the mast is vertical to the Camper Van/Trailer mark and drill the 4 holes. They will be below the canvas side of your camper van/trailer) for the bottom bracket. Once this has been completed fix the bottom bracket-again using the silicone sealant/adhesive. Fix off with the 4 remaining stainless steel screws. Finally wipe off and clean up the excess glue with turps and a rag.

Fine Tuning your Camper Trailer Antennae

Now that you have successfully mounted your Tall Boy Fold Away Antenna you may find that the arms/elements may need to be tightened. These will stay in the 10 and 2 O’clock tuning position. Just tighten the arms so that they are firm enough to stay up but still move up and down freely.

Mounting instructions for your Fold Out Canvas Tent Top Camper Trailer

Follow these simple mounting instructions for your fold out canvas tent top camper trailer. Perfect for forward fold, rear fold and side fold.

(You will need a Tall Boy Antenna and a Mast Support Kit)

Contents include
Antenna with 1 pole attached
2 x extension poles
1 x lock off pole
Top Clip
Bottom mount and 6x S.S screws
Mast Support
Pocket Bracket
4 x Screws

Camper Trailer Mounting Instructions

Before the Antenna mounting procedure erect your camper trailer so that you can mount the mast Support in a suitable location. You can mount this on any solid surface that is not impeded by the tent top or in the way off foot traffic i.e. kids heads etc.  I recommend in the centre of a tool box, inside of a spare tyre carrier or maybe the draw bar. If you mount it to the draw bar make sure that you mount it on the inside to avoid injury. The bottom of the bracket should be elevated about 10mm from the underside of the draw bar. This is so that it doesn’t get damaged or destroyed when travelling on uneven ground etc.

Installation Steps

When you receive your Tall Boy Fold Away Antenna and Mast Support Kit start by opening the lid on the Antenna Tube. Do this by pulling the lid up with a pair of pliers or similar grips. Remove the staples then take the antenna, mounts and screws out of its tube. Next unpack your Mast Support kit and find a suitable spot to mount the pocket bracket as explained above.  Mark 4 holes suitable to the situation and pre-drill with a 3 to 3.5 mm drill bit Apply a good quality silicone adhesive sealant between the Pocket Bracket and the mounting surface to avoid leaks and dust penetration. Fix off using the 4 tech screws provided, clean off the excess glue with turps on a rag. Trim the screws flush if they are accessible to avoid future injury (I can’t emphasize trimming the screws enough).

Next fit the top clip and bottom bracket to the Mast support pole to the holes. These have been factory pre-drilled and again trim the screws flush to avoid injury .(I can’t emphasize trimming the screws enough).

Assembling your Tall Boy Antenna

Feed the Coaxial cable through the extension poles first then the lock off pole last-bringing the cable out of the slot just above the clamp. Now that the Antenna has been erected it is time to mount it to your mast support pole. Place it into the pocket Bracket completing the mounting procedure.

Fine Tuning Your Camper Trailer Antennae

Now that you have successfully mounted your Tall Boy Fold Away Antenna you may find that the arms/elements may need to be tightened. They will stay in the 10 and 2 o’clock tuning position. Tighten the arms so that they are firm enough to stay up but still move up and down freely.

Mast Storage Tip

Your mast support pole should live on the bed so that the antenna brackets don’t get damaged when you fold out your camper place the pole into the pocket bracket.  It is out of the way while you are setting up camp. When you have set up camp and want to watch TV you will be ready to erect the antenna.

Finding A Suitable Reception With Your Fold Away Antenna

Remember that you are camping in some areas that have little to no signal so your choice of campsites will be important in these areas. If you camp in a hollow, hilly or timbered area this can affect your signal quality. Try to camp in an area with little or no obstructions that is flat or even elevated.

The best signal that you can get will be using a direct connection from the antenna to you Amplifier or T.V (where possible I recommend that on hard walled Vans you should use a Fold Away-Direct Connector, they simply cannot break down as other wall plugs are renowned for)

  1. Mount your Antenna to your vehicle in the 10 and 2 o’clock starting position
  2. Plug the antenna directly into your T.V and do an Auto Tune on DTV (digital T.V)
  3. The T.V should now tell you how many channels/stations you are receiving, it is now time to tweak the direction of your antenna if needed, this is done by simply lowering the lever in the clamp and rotating the antenna until the reception is found.
  4. Lift the lever to lock off the antenna and enjoy your favourite programs.
  5. If you cant find the signal you may have to adjust the arms-don’t stress this is a simple operation, first you should be able to see the T.V so you might have to take the antenna down, plug it into your T.V via the door perhaps then move the arms while rotating the antenna to find your happy spot. They could be set in any configuration at times, maybe 12 and 3 O’clock, 11 and 5 or even 12 and 6 in certain areas-what ever works is the go in this situation. But rest assured that if the T.V says you have signal then you will find it (maybe with your Amplifier, maybe without your Amplifier). Now you have found the happy spot attach the antenna to the vehicle again and enjoy.

If you are using your Amplifier;
Set it up behind the T.V, even cable tie it to the T.V through the attachment points on the back of the Amplifier-this way it is out of harm’s way-and when you want to move your T.V the Amp goes with it, I like watching T.V outside while relaxing so this is perfect for that scenario.

Direct Connector Fitting Instructions

Contents include;
Outer spout, inner trim fitting, plug on strap with O ring, Coaxial cable nozzle, O ring for nozzle, 4 x SS screws.
You will also need Turps, a rag, a 3 mm drill and a Phillips head screw driver or screw gun.

Tool Requirements:
25mm/1inch hole saw or a step drill to 25mm, 3 mm drill, Philips head screw driver or screw gun, good quality Silicone Adhesive (preferably White), Turps and a rag for clean-up.

  1. Make sure the electricity is not connected before you start fitting your Direct Connector
  2. Find an appropriate location away from power and obstructions (I like to fit it behind the T.V for convenience)
  3. When satisfied drill your 25mm/1inch hole drilling first from 1 side of the van then the other side of the van (this reduces chipping)
  4. On the outside of the van place the plug and strap over the outer spout, then lock the plug into the spout so that you know that you have it the correct way around.
  5. Apply enough silicone adhesive to seal off the spout, line up the holes in the housing of the spout and the strap accordingly, drill the 3mm holes then fix off with 2 of the Stainless Steel screws provided. Clean up with Turps and a rag.
  6. On the inside of the van fit the inner trim fitting using the silicone and 2 remaining screws, clean up with the turps and rag.
  7. It is now time to erect the antenna so that you can determine the length of coaxial cable you will require inside the van-when you get the appropriate length allow a bit more if possible then attach the nozzle with the narrow end of the nozzle closest to the antenna. When you are satisfied the nozzle is in the correct spot fill the 2 halves of the nozzle with silicone, snap them together over the coaxial cable and roll on the O ring, this will keep out bugs etc from your van (clean up with the turps and rag). Leave until the silicone sets before using it. The cable will now connect to your T.V through the wall giving you the best reception possible without any leaks, dust or bugs. Happy Camping.
